Dr. John, legendario músico de Nueva Orleans, es el icono vivo más prominente de dicha localidad . A través de la personificación del espíritu libre y creativo de su ciudad natal y de sus múltiples tradiciones musicales, ha construido una base de trabajo visionaria e idiosincrásica que procede de las tradiciones del blues, R&B, jazz y rock 'n' roll de la propia ciudad. Motivos más que sobrados para recibir un homenaje como el que recoge “The Musical Mojo of Dr. John: A Celebration of Mac & His Music", producido por Blackbird Presents y publicado por Concord Records el 28 de octubre de 2016.
El extenso tributo en directo, creado y producido por Keith Wortman, CEO de Blackbird Presents, es un poderoso testamento a la gran influencia e indomable espíritu musical del icónico cantante/pianista/guitarrista de Nueva Orleans. “The Musical Mojo of Dr. John”, que estará disponible en formato 2 CD +Blu-ray/DVD y también en doble CD, captura un concierto estelar en el Saenger Theatre de Nueva Orleans en el que Dr. John toca junto a una amplia selección de notables artistas invitados 22 canciones escritas, grabadas y/o popularizadas por él mismo durante sus seis décadas de carrera, homenajeando su largo y continuo legado musical.
Entre los artistas invitados se encuentran Bruce Springsteen, haciendo un dúo junto a Dr. John interpretando "Right Place Wrong Time", el exitazo de 1973; Jason Isbell, que interpreta de forma muy sentida "Blow Wind Blow"; Mavis Staples, que añade la pasión del góspel a la canción de "Lay My Burden Down"; Widespread Panic, que llenan de poderío musical el tema "Familiar Reality"; Ryan Bingham, tocando una inolvidable versión de "Back by the River"; y John Fogerty tocando el himno estridente de la gran ciudad "New Orleans".
